If you’ve been blogging or reading blogs for any amount of time you’ve likely heard how beneficial it can be to write guest posts for other bloggers. Aside from getting your name out there in the blog world, it works wonders for driving new and targeted traffic to your website and capturing new readers, which are things that any aspiring blogger wants.
But what about the bloggers who allow guest posts? Why do they do it? What do they get out of it? If you’ve been on the fence about opening up your blog to feature guest posters here are five reasons why you should:
It gives you a break from writing –
Let’s be honest, blogging every day and coming up with new, original content can be difficult after a while. Topics get rehashed repeatedly and bloggers end up covering the same topics over and over again. Featuring guest posters on your blog gives you the chance to keep your site live with updated content while giving you a break from doing the writing.
Featuring guest bloggers is also perfect for when you’re going on vacation and won’t have time or access to the internet to blog or for when you don’t want to pre-write posts for when you’ll be gone. Instead you let others pre-write posts for you.
It gives your readers a different perspective –
By allowing others to write for your blog from time to time it gives you a good opportunity to showcase unique perspectives and topics that you might not have come up with on your own. Providing your readers with a variety of viewpoints makes your blog a well-rounded source and thus more appealing to a wider audience. Readers like to know they can count on their favorite bloggers to provide a variety of topics and perspectives. It keeps things interesting.
You get exposure to new, targeted traffic –
In the same way that people who guest post get exposed to a larger audience, so will you by allowing guest posters on your blog because they will end up linking to their post on your site as well, which will expose your blog to their readers. This gives you an opportunity to gain new readers that you might not have reached otherwise.
It gives you a chance to network –
Approaching different bloggers to see if they would be interested in guest posting for you blog serves as the perfect way to open up lines of communication that might not have been there otherwise. Many bloggers, big and small, are happy to guest post for other bloggers, and by reaching out to them you have a chance to form a deeper relationship with them that can allow for link exchanges and more.

Anyone who has guest posted can attest to the fact that when writing a guest post they usually focus on providing the best content possible. This is because they want to lure in new readers to their own site by writing well for your site, but it works in a mutually beneficial way because it gives your site a lot of good, solid, quality content.
Allowing guest posts on your blog benefits everyone – you, the guest blogger, and your readers. If you’ve been hesitant about allowing guest posts on your site then give it a try. You’ll probably be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the content you receive. And remember – since it’s your website you don’t have to publish anything that you don’t like or that you feel doesn’t jive with the theme of your site.
